herpes zoster or 'Kayap'
|
|
Herpes zoster or kayap or shingles is an acute, localized infection with varicella-zoster virus, which causes a painful, blistering rash.
Caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. After an episode of chickenpox, the virus becomes dormant in the body. Herpes zoster occurs as a result of the virus re-emerging after many years.
After infection with chickenpox, the virus resides in a non-active state in the nerve tracts that emerge from the spine. When it is re-activated, it spreads along the nerve tract, first causing pain or a burning sensation.
The typical rash appears in 2 to 3 days, after the virus has reached the skin. It consists of red patches of skin with small blisters (vesicles) that look very similar to early chickenpox. The rash often increases over the next 3 to 5 days. Then, the blisters break, forming small ulcers that begin to dry and form crusts. The crusts fall off in 2 to 3 weeks, leaving behind pink healing skin.
Lesions typically appear along a single dermatome (the body area served by a single spinal nerve) and are only on one side of the body (unilateral). The trunk is most often affected, showing a rectangular belt of rash from the spine around one side of the chest to the breastbone (sternum). Some of us percaya if kayap ni bertemu or bercantum pengidap boleh ...mati which is not true
Shingles may be complicated by a condition known as post-herpetic neuralgia. This is persistence of pain in the area where the shingles occurred that may last from months to years following the initial episode. This pain can be severe enough to be incapacitating. The elderly are at higher risk for this complication.
Herpes zoster can be contagious through direct contact in an individual who has not had chickenpox, and therefore has no immunity. Herpes zoster may affect any age group, but it is much more common in adults over 60 years old, in children who had chickenpox before the age of one year, and in individuals whose immune system is weakened.
* Warning symptoms of unilateral (on one side) pain, tingling, or burning sensation limited to a specific part of the body -- pain and burning sensation may be intense
* Reddening of the skin (erythema) followed by the appearance of blisters (vesicles)
* Grouped, dense, deep, small blisters that ooze and crust

CHICKENPOX
|
|
chickenpox or campak besaq by orang utagha or pelentong(by orang perak) sangat senang dikesan and very contagoius.
Chickenpox causes a red, itchy rash on the skin that usually appears first on the abdomen or back and face, and then spreads to almost everywhere else on the body, including the scalp, mouth, nose, ears, and genitals.
The rash begins as multiple small, red bumps that look like pimples or insect bites. They develop into thin-walled blisters filled with clear fluid, which becomes cloudy. The blister wall breaks, leaving open sores, which finally crust over to become dry, brown scabs.
our orang kampung believed that this diseases should be treat by bomoh only.

gout-painful & swollen joint
|
|
deposit of uric acid in and around the joint cause swelling and pain
What is gout ?
~ Painful gouty arthritis is caused by uric acid crystal deposits in joint tissue.
~The tendency to develop gout and elevated blood uric acid level (hyperuricemia) is often inherited.
~ Gout and hyperuricemia can be promoted by obesity, weight gain, alcohol intake, high blood pressure, abnormal kidney function, and drugs.
~Dietary changes can help reduce uric acid levels in the blood. Since purine chemicals are converted by the body into uric acid, purine rich foods are avoided.Examples of foods rich in purine include shellfish and organ meats, such as liver, brains, kidneys, and sweetbreads. Meat or seafood consumption increases the risk of gout attacks, while dairy consumption seemed to reduce the risk!
~ Gouty arthritis attacks can be precipitated by dehydration, injury, fever, heavy eating, heavy drinking of alcohol, and recent surgery.
The term "gout" commonly is used to refer to the painful arthritis attacks.
Gouty arthritis is usually an extremely painful attack with a rapid onset of joint inflammation. The joint inflammation is precipitated by deposits of uric acid crystals in the joint fluid (synovial fluid) and joint lining (synovial lining). Intense joint inflammation occurs as white blood cells engulf the uric acid crystals and release chemicals of inflammation, causing pain, heat, and redness of the joint tissues.

clinical image-hand foot and mouth disease
|
|
Hand foot and mouth disease.
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is not the same as other diseases that have similar names: foot-and-mouth disease (sometimes called hoof-and-mouth disease) or mad cow disease. These diseases almost always occur in animals.
Among Malaysian known as 'sakit tangan kaki dan mulut' but always often disamakan dengan 'sakit kuku dan mulut yang only happen kat animals espy cows.
HFMD most often develops in children younger than 10.
What causes hand-foot-and-mouth disease?
HFMD is caused by infection with an enterovirus, usually Coxsackie 16 or, less commonly, enterovirus 71.
HFMD is contagious. It can be passed to others through contact with the infected person's saliva, mucus, or feces. Children are most contagious during the first week of the illness. However, the virus remains in the feces and can sometimes spread for several weeks after the blisters and sores have healed.
The incubation period-the time between when a person is first exposed to the virus and when symptoms develop-is about 3 to 6 days.
What are the symptoms?
child may at first feel tired, develop a sore throat, and have a fever of around 101 F to 103 F. These symptoms usually last for 1 to 2 days. Mouth sores that are similar to canker sores then develop and are usually painful. Small red spots or fluid-filled blisters next appear on the hands, feet, mouth, and occasionally, the buttocks. Sometimes a skin rash develops before the blisters appear. The blisters may break open and crust over. They usually last a total of about 7 to 10 days.
